Sexual issues and/or trauma can usually be discussed and treated within regular therapy. If it concerns a more specific sexual disorder, a sexologist can assist with the issue. Examples include arousal disorders, sexual aversion, vaginismus, gender development, paraphilias, and sex addiction. This usually involves a few consultations, after which it can be integrated into the ongoing treatment with the treating practitioner/psychologist. Sometimes it involves a separate or longer process.
Currently, one of our mental health psychologists is the point of contact for these issues. She specializes in this field and will start training as an NVVS sexologist in November 2026. Until then, she can consult with an NVVS sexologist for supervision/input on case studies if necessary.
A sexologist can be called in as an addition to the regular therapy.
