GZ-Psychologist

Although I completed my Master’s degree in Clinical and Developmental Psychology in Groningen (2008), I have spent a large part of my career in Australia. I worked as a Family Counselor at a community organization in a disadvantaged neighborhood of Melbourne, where I gained a lot of experience with attachment issues, systemic issues, intergenerational trauma, and complex trauma. I obtained my registration as a psychologist in Australia (in Dutch terms, a GZ psychologist) and then worked for five years at a psychology practice with both children and adults who were struggling with less complex issues (such as anxiety, depression, single trauma) as well as more complex issues (personality issues, complex trauma). Since 2021, my family and I have been back in The Netherlands (Groningen), and I have worked in both primary and specialist mental health care settings, including with clients in crisis settings, at a large mental health care organisation.

I like to work in a client-centered way, with plenty of room for the client’s underlying needs, paying attention to any childhood struggles or traumas, looking at the current (dysfunctional) coping style, and of course focusing on the client’s strengths. I also have both personal and professional experience of living and working in another country, including life in a bilingual family (my husband is Australian). I am experienced in CBT, EMDR, Schemafocused therapy, ACT, mindfulness and solutionfocused therapy. Strengthening resilience and self confidence is a central part of my therapy, within an open, transparent and safe therapeutic framework.
